Construction

Limestone is the most widely used building material in the world. It is used in the construction of roads, concrete and other building materials.

Soil stabilisation

Lime-based stabilisation products are used for soil stabilisation of wet and soft clay soil and they enable construction on challenging conditions. With lime-based stabilisation products, a strong and durable foundation can be achieved cost-effectively with all soil types even in demanding circumstances. Lime-based stabilisation products offer an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution in comparison with alternative methods.

Road Construction

Nordkalk limestone fillers are used as fillers in asphalt coating. Limestone fillers significantly improve the long-term durability of the asphalt. Using lime as filler in asphalt mixture is a cost-effective solution as the lifetime of lime-bearing asphalt is longer. Industrially produced lime filler is also a high-quality, homogeneous and environmentally friendly product. Studies show that limestone is the most reliable and durable filler for asphalt.

Aggregates for Road Construction

Nordkalk aggregates are used in the production of mineral-asphalt mixes as well as for building frost protection layers and support and basic foundations. They are also used in the building of roads with the highest traffic intensity.

Nordkalk aggregates are characterised by good adhesion with asphalt, considerable hardness, cubicity and freeze resistance, also in salt solutions.  Mechanically condensed, at an appropriate level of humidity they form a load-bearing layer for upper bituminous layers.

Building Materials

Limestone powder is the most widely used building material in the world. This status is the result of the good physical and chemical qualities of limestone. Lime is stone, therefore it does not decompose, shrink or expand.

Nordkalk’s limestone powder products made of the white marble in Pargas are used in products, in which high quality and white colour is required such as white plasters and mortars, white concrete facades, in colourful facings and e.g. in the white substance used for road markings. Other Nordkalk lime fillers are widely used raw materials in different construction industry products such as concrete, tiles, roofing felt and fibre cement board and in mortars and levelling compounds.

Quicklime is needed as a binding agent in lime sand bricks, and slaked lime in all types of plasters and levelling compounds.

Aggregates for Construction Industry

Nordkalk aggregates are used in the production of high-quality concrete, concrete products, prefabricated elements and sett stone. All aggregates meet the highest requirements of European standards.
