Nordkalk Milk of Lime

Nordkalk Milk of Lime is an environmentally friendly, readily dispersed and easy-to-use low-viscosity product. It consists of calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 and water, and has vast applications in many industrial processes, such as drinking water and wastewater treatment, soil stabilization in construction, soil improvement in agriculture and purification in metal processes.

Nordkalk Milk of Lime is a safe product and can be used to adjust pH levels, control water hardness, or reduce pathogens and contaminants. Nordkalk Milk of Lime is made of high-quality limestone that is adjusted to meet our customers’ needs depending on the application.

Nordkalk Milk of Lime is a cost-effective, ready-made product that is safe and easy to use. The product is easy to add to a process, which shortens the lead time and results in increased production capacity. There is no need to invest in the slaking process or separate silos – a mixing tank is enough. Compared to other products, such as caustic soda, Nordkalk Milk of Lime has lower costs, which is highlighted especially when a higher volume of product is needed, for instance in wastewater treatment.

Technical performance

Nordkalk Milk of Lime has excellent dispersive properties thanks to its porosity and grain sizes. It efficiently neutralizes acidic water and controls the hardness of the water.

Lime versus caustic soda

Both lime and caustic soda are commonly used to adjust the hardness of water or to control pH. Nordkalk Milk of Lime is a more cost-effective solution than caustic soda: Not only does it cost less, but less product is needed to produce the same results as with caustic soda.

Milk of lime (pH 12.45) is also a safer product to use, since the pH of caustic soda is higher (pH 14.0) and therefore more corrosive and can cause chemical burns or damage skin.

Lime quenches thirst

Milk of lime is a safe and efficient product for neutralizing water. It speeds up the reaction in the purification process, since the lime solution process has already taken place in the preparation of the product. With milk of lime, there is no need to invest in the slaking process or separate silos.
