European Minerals Day activities help us link together the products we use every day and the extraction or processing activities taking place next door.

In the 2015 edition of this bi-annual event, more than 130 sites in 25 countries all over Europe and beyond organised open days, welcoming tens of thousands of people to learn about the world of minerals and mineral extraction.

Nordkalk and Kunda Nordic to host the launch in Estonia
The 2017 European Minerals Day will be officially launched on 21 & 22 September 2017 by Nordkalk and Kunda Nordic on behalf of the 10 partnering European minerals sectors with the support of the Estonian EU Presidency & European Commission.

The Launch events taking place at the Nordkalk Kurevere dolomite operations and the Kunda Nordic Tsement operations will tell the story of how the minerals industry contributes to sustainable regions and the well-being of the local communities while making the link to the EU Jobs and Growth Agenda, the EU Biodiversity Strategy, EU Action Plan for Nature, People and the Economy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainable access to raw materials from European deposits is essential in order to maintain a European Minerals Sector.

Crucial minerals for European products and jobs
Minerals are crucial for the development of modern, environmentally-friendly technologies and downstream products such as electric cars, wind turbines, photovoltaic solar panels and energy-efficient housing and infrastructure.

About 70% of EU manufacturing production depends on mined substances. Sustainable access to raw materials from European deposits is thus essential in order to maintain a European Minerals Sector. The sector provides direct employment to around 1 million people across 30,000 active mines, quarries and plants. Its annual turnover is more than €150 billion. The Minerals sector ensures products manufactured using European resources, by European employees.
