Trial for lime kiln accident in Luleå in 2011 starts in January

Tiina Roine (info a nordkalk.com), 16 January 2017

In the end of January 2017 begins the trial for the occupational accident that took place at Nordkalk’s lime kiln in Luleå 1 November 2011. The trial is expected to last for 10 days in Luleå District Court. (25 to 27 January, 31 January to 3 February and 6 to 8 February). Nordkalk and its former Plant Manager in Luleå are charged with work safety offence.

Nordkalk regrets deeply the accident and the consequences it had for the victims and their relatives. It is unfortunate for all concerned that the investigation of the accident has taken this long. We have taken the accident with utmost seriousness and have internally investigated the causes for the accident thoroughly. We have put a lot of work into preventing a similar accident from happening again.

Safety has been a major focus within the company for many years. We are certified by ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. Our goal is zero accidents and we work towards this goal e.g. by making risk observations. Health and safety are always first on the agenda and we have made it clear that safety is never to be compromised.
