Pre-Olympic event in Rio
Our flight from Lisbon landed in Rio 10th of April. Nearly ten-hour trip went painlessly as it was a night flight and there was plenty of space in the plane, so I was able to lay down comfortably.
At seven o'clock in the morning, when all luggage and the guns were picked up from the customs, we headed outside to get some fresh air. The air though, was certainly not fresh, as the temperature was already 29 degrees and it rather felt like a boiling hot day. However, I knew to expect it from the trip.
Before the Pre-Olympic World Cup race, we had a few days off. We spent those days doing some touristic things - normally this happens very rarely. Nevertheless, we couldn't stay at the hotel although we were tired, because we wanted to get used to the time difference.
We did a guided tour to the statue of the Christ the Redeemer, which is located high on Mount Corcovado. As all the tourists over there, we also took millions of photos. From there we drove to another hill called Sugar Loaf Mountain. Travel to the top of the hill was made with cable car. Both places had great views over the Rio regions. We also checked out the Samba Street just in case for the future. It is a long street; you will have enough time to move your hips on that street. At the tour, a few smaller villages and infamous village were presented to us. No one was eager for closer exploration.
We didn´t visit the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, but there was plenty of sun in all the places we visited. The average temperature was 30 degrees, but in the sun it was much hotter. There were no shelters at the shooting areas, so I could really feel it in the shooting range. Shooting didn't go according to the book, which means that more practice needs to be done. At the end I was able to improve my performance, but the fumble on the first part was too much. However, I was in a better mood at the end. On Wednesday 27th of April, there are 100 days until the real Rio competition starts.
The atmosphere of the Olympic Games was not present yet at the streets of Rio. This time there were plenty of cars and traffic, which sometimes needs a lot of patience.
So next time I will be back in Rio at the end of July. The Olympics will begin with the opening on 5th of August at Maracana Stadium.
Till next time!
