Exhibition ”Going Underground” Evoked Interest Internationally

Nordkalk (info a nordkalk.com), 14 September 2015

On 11 October 2014, an exhibition studying geology, mining and underground construction was opened at The Science Centre Heureka in Vantaa Finland. Now, almost a year later, the exhibition is closing in Finland, the last chance to go underground is on 20 September.

The exhibition aroused interest both in Finland and internationally. Heureka is currently negotiating selling the exhibition to The Czech Republic. It is also possible that a version of the Going Underground exhibition will be opened in The United States. The international interest reflects the topicality of the theme globally and speaks for Heureka’s successful production of the exhibition.

Quarry and town – grown together

One of the items on display at the exhibition is called “The face of a mining town”. It exhibits how Nordkalk’s quarry has influenced the lives of the citizens of Pargas. For this purpose, Heureka visited Pargas interviewing and photographing the local people in the spring of 2014.

The exhibition has attracted visitors from the first weekend it opened; by the end of August 2015, almost 200.000 people have seen the exhibition, 45.000 of which are school children.

Nordkalk is one of the sponsors to the exhibition.
