We have established close cooperation with the Geoscience Friends Association PHACOPS and the Institute of Palaeobiology of the Polish Academy of Sciences to popularize palaeontology. Last year, we handed over to the Sławno commune an area with a unique palaeontological site called Geopark Owadów-Brzezinki, and are now planning to support the education of children and youth from the Piekoszów commune in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship.

The educational programme has been carried out in the Sławno commune. The main purpose of the workshops and lectures that have been held, was to popularize knowledge of nature among the inhabitants of the region by initiating an atmosphere of understanding and respect for the natural environment. - These activities are mainly directed to children and school youth, as well as to people interested in research and protection of the natural and cultural heritage of Poland - explains Ph.D. Błażej Błażejowski from the Institute of Paleobiology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, president of the PHACOPS Association and one of the initiators of the educational campaign. “After the success of lectures in the Sławno commune, we want to popularize the knowledge of prehistory in Piekoszów commune in Świętokrzyskie Voievodship”, he adds.

The lectures will be conducted by scientists from the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw associated with the Society of Friends of Earth Sciences PHACOPS. The topics of lectures include characteristics of marine creatures of the dinosaur era, which fossils of those left in limestone deposits in the region. Scientists will also talk about the unusual flora of the late Cretaceous, when the climate in Poland was much warmer. One of the first lectures will concern the unique exhibition at the Museum Chamber of Ore Mine in Miedzianka, "Polish paleontologists in the Arctic and Antarctic". “I am very happy that as a company, we can get involved in educational projects aimed at popularizing palaeontology, learning about the world as it was hundreds of millions of years ago, traces of which are found in limestone rocks. I hope that this initiative will turn into permanent cooperation, which will benefit primarily the region and the inhabitants of the Piekoszów commune”, says Piotr Maciak, President of the Management Board of Nordkalk Polska.
