Environmental use of limestone products

Productivity and environmental care are not necessarily contradictory. In Nordkalk these two issues are combined. Nordkalk products and different lime-based applications make it possible to prevent as well as solve environmental problems.

Cleaning of flue gases is one the most important fields of application for our products, which are primarily used to curb the harmful emissions created in different combustion processes.

In agriculture and forestry Nordkalk products are used to neutralize the soil acidification caused by various processes in the soil, fertilization and acidic emissions.

Liming of freshwater systems is an important way to protect and restore the ecology of vulnerable water ecosystems until acidic emissions are under control.

Nordkalk products are also important in the water cycle related to human life. This applies to the processing of drinking water as well as to the purification of waste water. In Nordic countries water is often acidic and thus corrosive to plumbing. Lime is added to the water in order to reduce corrosivity. Once water has been used, straight harmful substances and undesired nutritive salts must be removed before water is returned to the natural cycle. Nordkalk products are used at various wastewater purification processes in order to guarantee a good result.
