Nordkalk extracts and refines limestone. The environmental impact of these operations is continuously monitored and evaluated in accordance with the company’s operating policy, which covers the whole of Nordkalk. The obligation to pay attention to environmental impacts is part of the annual strategic planning, and products and manufacturing methods are being developed with the aim of reducing the environmental impacts of quarrying and processing to a minimum.

Nordkalk’s operations in Sweden and Poland and the production plants in Finland have been environmentally certificated according to the ISO 14001:2004 standard. Since 1996 Nordkalk has published environmental reports. All operations have also been granted a quality certificate according to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. OHSAS 18001:2007 certification has been granted to operations in Poland, Sweden and Lappeenranta in Finland.

The environmental management system defines major environmental aspects, the targets set for conservation measures, means how to reach the targets and to monitor their implementation. The aim is continuous improvement, and the environmental work is monitored by regular audits. The purpose of the audits is also to ensure that the operating policy is followed and the set targets, like those for emissions, for example, are achieved.

Nordkalk is engaged in the work of several organizations and sponsors Pro Archipelago Sea environmental project.

Nordkalk products are used in environmental care both for preventing environmental problems from arising and for solving them. Nordkalk Water Group is responsible for water treatment issues.
