PCC - Paper made with Brilliance
PCC, or Precipitated Calcium Carbonate, is a product made from quicklime and used as filler in fine paper - a product where brightness and opacity are important qualities. PCC is increasingly used also as a coating pigment.
PCC is made of quicklime which Nordkalk produces in Verdal, Norway and at Tytyri in Lohja, Finland. The raw material is from Verdal, Norway, where Nordkalk co-owns a quarry.
The Norwegian company NorFraKalk AS, which is owned in half by Nordkalk Corporation and Franzefoss Minerals AS, has built a lime kiln in Verdal, Norway. The raw material for the kiln comes from the Verdal quarry and is especially suitable for raw material for paper pigment PCC. The lime imported by Nordkalk from Verdal, Norway, is a truly unique raw material. It is white, highly reactive and pure. These qualities make it ideally suited for the production of PCC. In order to maximise the efficiency of our logistics, the quicklime is shipped directly by sea to hubs or clients all over Europe. High technology makes the Verdal stone into its very best.
Some quicklime for PCC is also produced at Storugns in Sweden.
